Alliance of American Football Adds Atlanta as Second Market

OSC Original by Fran Stuchbury
The Alliance of American football added its second franchise yesterday, announcing a team will play at Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia State Stadium. Brad Childress was named the team's head coach and Michael Vick was tabbed the offensive coordinator. While the NFL's Falcons and the still new $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium have attracted a lot of attention from the sports world, the AAF is hoping to carve its own niche in a much different way. Jarrett Bash on Final Lap Lifts 'Birds into First

SALISBURY, MD - Down to his team's final strike, Zach Jarrett bashed a walk-off two-run home run to left, lifting the Delmarva Shorebirds past the Kannapolis Intimidators 4-3 on a most dramatic Thursday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. With the Shorebirds (14-7) trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, T.J. Nichting laced a one-out single into center. After a strikeout, Jarrett came up to face Intimidators (13-8) reliever Jake Elliott. After fouling off one 0-2 pitch, Jarrett attacked an offspeed offering and cranked it deep to left. Craig Dedelow could only leap to watch it land, and... Full Story

TinCaps Put Up Late Runs in Road Win

MIDLAND, Mich. - Behind terrific pitching from Tom Cosgrove, the TinCaps beat the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers), 4-1, on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Dow Diamond. With the win, Fort Wayne earned a split in the four-game series. Cosgrove became just the second TinCaps pitcher this season to go six innings as a starter. Just like fellow left-hander Aaron Leasher who did the same last week against Great Lakes (5-13), Cosgrove blanked the Loons. The 21-year-old from Staten Island, N.Y., struck out six as he scattered five hits and two walks. His performance was necessary as Great Lak... Full Story
